Rainbow Mountain: Finding Your Strength Means Putting in the Effort

Rainbow Mountain is probably one of the most exhilarating places to visit in Peru. Whether you’re hiking, horse back riding, or simply sitting and enjoying the peace of the location, you’ll notice that it gives you time to really think about your purpose and discover your strengths and weaknesses. Warrior Retreats chose this location to visit because it offers a wealth of opportunities to explore what is inside ourselves.

The magic of the mountain will charm you

We all know that there is something entirely charming about beautiful landscapes. However, when you pair that beauty with a myriad of opportunities for adventure, you really do end up with a life-changing combination. Many who visit Peru never want to leave this amazing country, as they fall in love with the food, the culture, the mysticism and history, and most definitely, the scenery.

Rainbow Mountain itself is no different. In fact, it is entirely challenging and, depending on the weather (in many cases it is 0 degrees Celsius), will have you pushing yourself as you trek up the trail. The myriad colors of the mountain were created by a variety of mineral deposits that have been exposed by weather and erosion over centuries of time. This allows the mountain to truly become a “rainbow” that you’ll want to see in person, as many of the pictures you’ll find online are enhanced or altered in ways that really do detract from the amazing experience of seeing it yourself.

Physical challenges help you to gain perspective mentally and emotionally.

Canadian fitness enthusiast, Poonam Muti, and Warrior Retreats II participant remembers how she felt when she climbed this Peruvian Andes mountain. “Rainbow Mountain was one of the most physically and mentally challenging experiences of my life. Every step I was gasping for air, questioning why I didn’t spend the 10 sols (about $3 USD) on the horse ride up the mountain. The local men walking by with horses were so tempting. It would be so simple and just take all the pain away.

Poonam recalls, “that was the moment I realized, I needed to make a choice. Continue on and do the impossible, or give up and take the easy way out. I chose to confront my fear and self-doubt. When I took that last step to get the top, I experienced a feeling like no other. Besides the evident beauty I was surrounded by, I stepped into a place of confidence and power. Rainbow mountain to some may be just another hike, but for me it was much more than that. It was the day I realized I was capable of so much more.”

Even the fittest of people will realize their strengths and weaknesses on a trek up Rainbow Mountain. This is a simple fact that many individuals try to deny. However, that does not mean that it has to be impossible to complete. There are many guides, as well as the option to ride up the mountain (in part) on horseback for those who have difficulty otherwise. What this adds up to is a chance to really gain perspective about yourself.

Many of us see ourselves at one end of the food chain. Either we envision ourselves at the top or at the bottom. However, a trek up the mountain gives plenty of time for introspection, as well as some truly interesting assessments about ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Warrior Retreats Founder, Branden Collinsworth says, “the journey is the reward, Rainbow Mountain may be challenging but if you take it one step at a time, when you reach the top you’ll see and feel pure heaven.

We’ve seen people who looked up at the lofty peak and stated there was no way they’d be able to complete the journey. These same people have ended the day with more energy than those in far better physical shape, simply because they had faith in themselves. Was this because of some magic gift? Indeed, it was not. They found that they possessed a strength and desire to complete the journey and they saw it to the end, discovering their own internal strength and coming away with a brighter outlook overall.

Why is this kind of discovery so important?

Rainbow Mountain, to some, is simply a pretty sight to visit. That is fine, as they go in with one intention and they stick with that. For those who look beyond the lovely scenery, there are a wealth of discoveries to be made, including many about ourselves.

Warrior Retreats visits Rainbow Mountain not to simply enjoy a bit of scenery, but to enjoy the journey of one’s self, which has a much deeper and longer-lasting impression at the end of the day. Learning about yourself gives you a better chance to change your current situation, which could result in a far greater amount of happiness and success in your life.

With fifty-two hours of travel, no real sleep, and no acclimation to the thousands of feet above sea level, Nike Professional, Chris Turney started his Peru journey very challenging. After landing in Cusco, Peru that evening, he was on the early morning journey that starts at 3:30 AM.

Turney recalls, “Rainbow Mountain was one of the hardest physical and mental pushes of my life. I got through it, which gave me the strength to know I can push through even the hardest of times.

Overall, Rainbow Mountain offers people a chance to truly let go of their preconceived views and find out who they are inside. This strength lends itself to everything we do, everything we are, and everything we can become, making the journey an important step towards your future.
